Benjamin Randall '18 impressed at the Baltimore Summer Kickoff.  Randall is also an honor student at Mason HS.

Spike Malangone of Lacrosse Recruits also attended, and said of Randall: "... big, physical player... ideal size and a strong, athletic frame... moves his feet well defending, and opens his hips well to run with dodgers... excellent stick... impressive getting the ball off the ground and legging it upfield.http://lacrosserecruits.com/news/featured/featured-five-baltimore-summer-kickoff-session-1-2014/

-Marymount Lacrosse has announced that recently graduated JJ Laforet '13 has become a graduate assistant coach for the Saints: http://www.marymount.edu/athletics/mLacrosse/staff.aspx


JJ Laforet '13 will help coach Marymount while also pursuing a Masters in Business Administration.


-Stony Brook News reported on the opening of Frey Hall, a renovation of the Old Chemistry building, which was built in 1962.  The project was partially funded by alumnus Dr. Robert Frey, who was also instrumental in the construction of the first campus hotel, the SB Hilton Garden Innhttp://commcgi.cc.stonybrook.edu/am2/publish/General_University_News_2/What_Was_Old_is_New_Again_SBU_Commemorates_the_Opening_of_Frey_Hall_A_High_Tech-Dedicated_Classroom_Building.shtml


Frey Hall is a high-tech classroom-only facility that retrofitted the Old Chemistry building with 1,971 new seats, three lecture halls, and modern teaching and learning technologies.

The renovated SB Arena will rotate the old format ninety degrees, so that fans entering from the main entrance will be standing at mid-court.

-The Fight for Edward is only halfway complete and the Organization would like to thank the alums and the SB Lacrosse community for its contribution.  You can still contribute to the cause of Ed DeLaura '00 by clicking here: http://www.booster.com/edwarddelaura13 


The Fight for Edward has been a resounding success, meeting 80% of its goal only halfway through the fundraiser.

Since undergoing surgery, Ed DeLaura '00 has now been diagnosed with Glioma, a form of brain cancer.  Currently, the tumors are low-grade, however, it is likely to increase to high-grade soon.  Ed is facing a difficult future and more chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.  Nevertheless, Ed has remained in good spirits and would like to thank the alumni for their support.

Stony Brook University jumped up ten spots to #82 in the US News & World Report Rankings for the Best National Universities in America.

SB also moved up ten spots in the previous year in 2013, moving from #102 to #92.


For 2014, SB was also ranked 34th amongst the Top National Public Universities.

Former captain Greg Taylor '98 lead the country in save percentage in 1998 and was named to the North/South Senior Game. Taylor also won the 1992 Long Island Championship at Lynbrook High School.

-Bob Chavez of IL Indoor covered the 2013 NLL Draft, which included midfielder JJ Laforet '13 going to the Minnesota Swarm in the fifth round: http://www.ilindoor.com/2013/09/16/nll-entry-draft-live/


JJ Laforet '13 finished his career with All America East honors in 2013, picking up 31 ground balls and scoring 4G in only eight games.  

Chavez also mentions Kevin Crowley '11 in the article, stating that Crowley was the first pick in the 2011 draft.

Before the draft, Stephen Stamp of IL Indoor listed the Top 50 NLL prospects, including JJ Laforet '13 at #33http://www.ilindoor.com/2013/09/11/national-lacrosse-league-entry-draft-il-indoors-top-50-prospects-31-50/


Stamp said JJ Laforet '13: "... showed some offensive skill in his junior days.  He posted 58 points, including 26 goals... followed that up with 26- and 41-point seasons... developed more into a defensive player".

Tom Compitello '11 coached the offense for two seasons at Lehigh, averaging nearly 11 goals per game and the nation's top man up percentage in 2012.

Chris Chamberlain '94 and Sean Chamberlain '07 pose in front of their dedicated lockers. Phase One of the Locker Room Project has been a resounding success, selling over 50% of available lockers. 

-The Organization is seeking volunteers for the 2013 Career Seminar to be held on Homecoming 2013.  Participants are required to speak to the team for approximately 15-20 minutes on the importance of academics and career planning. Those interested in helping should contact the Webmaster immediately, as space is limited.

During the 2012 Career Seminar, six alumni volunteered to speak to the team, including Will Imhof '96 (above).

-Former SB Lacrosse attackman Ed DeLaura '00 has fallen ill and needs your support.  Ed has suddenly contracted Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis, an autoimmune disease.

Ed has been taking the necessary steps to get better by regularly visiting his doctors and frequent trips to the hospital.  Ed's doctors have since discovered two brain tumors, one of which is inoperable.  Ed will undergo surgery for removal in early September.  

Ed was still actively playing lacrosse recently with other SB alumni, until his diagnosis with LV.  Ed and his wife Victoria have launched The Fight for Edward, an effort to raise funds and awareness for LV and for Ed's treatment.  

Ed is a mainstay at all SB Lacrosse alumni events and regularly contributes to the program.  Ed also appears at all Alumni Games and suits up.  Ed now needs your help to offset the costs of surgery and post-surgery chemotherapy.  

Here is your chance to support a fellow alumnus- you can make a donation of $35 and receive a towel to raise awareness for LV.  Towels will be mailed out approximately in mid-October. http://www.booster.com/edwarddelaura13

-The Organization has come across an SB Lacrosse bumper sticker from 1984:


SB Athletics went by the Patriots from 1966 to 1994, when it changed to the Seawolves.

Attackman John Warrack '86 lead the team with 46G, 31A on the season:

In 1984, SB Lacrosse achieved an 11-3 record, its best-ever winning percentage to date (.785%).

Following the groundbreaking season, John Warrack '86 and Chris Scaduto '88 were both named to the Division III All America team:


In 1984, Ray McKenna '84 (left, #30) put up an impressive 28G, 24A from midfield, while his linemate Chris Scaduto '88 (right, #33), as freshman, scored 22G, 7A.

-Major League Lacrosse reported on the Chesapeake Bayhawks winning the 2013 MLL Championship, with Adam Rand '11 winning 171 faceoffs and picking up 35 ground balls on the season: http://mll.stats.pointstreak.com/playerpage.html?playerid=4973267&seasonid=11493




Adam Rand '11 (right) has now won two consecutive MLL Championships with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, winning 356 faceoffs over that period alone.


-Casey Vock of Inside Lacrosse reported on the Hamilton Nationals falling to the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the MLL Semifinals, despite Kevin Crowley '11 scoring 2G, 1A: http://www.insidelacrosse.com/news/2013/08/24/mll-semifinals-chesapeake-edges-hamilton-13-12-advances-championship-sunday



Kevin Crowley '11, the 2013 MLL Player of the Year, finished the season with a career best 40G, 15A for a total of 65 points.

Kevin Crowley '11 (right) will appear on the cover of the October issue of Inside Lacrosse Magazine, which claimed that Crowley has joined the upper-echelon of the league's midfielders.

In 2013, his third year in the MLL, Crowley shattered his career bests in points, shooting percentage and shots on goal.  Crowley lead the Nationals to a 9-5 record, their best record in club history.
