-Greg Logan of Newsday reported that SB Athletics has hired Shawn Heilbron as the new Director of Athletics at SB: http://www.newsday.com/sports/college/stony-brook/stony-brook-names-shawn-heilbron-its-new-athletic-director-1.7964653

Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron (left), pictured with Wolfie and President Stanley, comes to SB from Oregon State, where he was the Senior Associate Director of Development.

Heilbron's accomplishments include administering football and men's basketball and revamping fundraising at OSU.  Further, Heilbron's resume includes stops at UCLA and Southern Methodist University, where he was involved fundraising, marketing, sponsorship, and ticket sales.

-Phil Shore of Lacrosse Magazine previewed the upcoming season for the MLL's Florida Launch, including a photo and interview with midfielder Kevin Crowley '11http://laxmagazine.com/mll/2013-14/news/042314_mll_2014_preview_no_5_florida_launch


Shore wrote that Kevin Crowley '11 could be "the first repeat MLL MVP since John Grant Jr." in 2007 and 2008".  Crowley was named the 2013 MLL MVP and moved with the team from Hamilton, Ontario to Florida.

After suiting up for Team Canada in 2010, former SB midfielder Kevin Crowley '11 will play for the Canadians again in Denver this summer.  


-Ryan Restivo of NYC Buckets reported on SB extending the contract of Men's Basketball coach Steve Pikiell through the 2018-2019 season: http://www.nycbuckets.com/2014/04/stony-brook-extends-steve-pikiell-2019/


Coach Pikiell has lead the Seawolves to the AE Finals in three of the last four seasons.  Pikiell's contact has now been extended six times in nine years.

-Checkmate Lacrosse is seeking prospective players for its masters league club team.  If you are over 30 and interested in joining, please contact the Webmaster.  Games are in Holtsville, NY on Monday and Wednesday nights starting in May.  You can find more information about the club here: www.checkmateinnlacrosse.com

-The America East announced the 2014 All Conference team, which includes the following six Seawolves honored: 

Challen Rogers '16 (First Team)
Mike Rooney '15 (Second Team)
George Benitez '14 (Second Team)
Hayden Johnstone '17 (Rookie Team)
Kyle Rowe '17 (Rookie Team)
Lucas Rock '16 (Academic Team)

Sophomore Challen Rogers '16 was named to the AE First Team after scoring 23G, 32A in 17 games this year.  Rogers was named to the AE Second Team and AE Rookie Team in 2013.

Senior George Benitez '14 was named to the AE Second Team and registering 18 ground balls on the year, plus his first career goal.  Benitez started all 31 games for SB from 2013 through 2014.

The program graduates seven seniors in 2014, which includes: George Benitez '14, Dom Cerasi '14, Devin Feeney '14, Cole Millican '14, Zach Smith '14, Cody Vassallo '14, and Kyle Zorn '14

Dom Cerasi '14 (right) graduates from SB after appearing in over 40 games and serving as a short stick midfielder and a long stick midfielder.  Cerasi totalled 2 career assists and 22 career ground balls for the Seawolves.

Kevin Crowley '11 has registered 30G, 35A for the Philadelphia Wings in 16 games so far in 2014.


-Terry Foy of Inside Lacrosse ranked the top freshmen of 2014, which included midfielder Kyle Rowe '17 at #3 amongst all freshmen: http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/di-freshman-rankings-april-16/28175

Freshman midfielder Kyle Rowe '17 has won 201 of 315 (.638%) faceoffs so far this season, picking up 126 ground balls.

Rhys Duch '08, in his fifth year in the NLL, has surpassed 500 career points on 218G, 286A with the Stealth.  


-StonyBrook.edu reported on the completion of the new Computer Science Building in between the Engineering Quad and the existing Computer Science building: http://www.stonybrook.edu/facilities/projects/current/main_campus/?computer_science

The new Computer Science Building, situated north of Roth Quad, will include offices, research and teaching laboratories, conference areas, and a number of breakout spaces for collaborative and interdisciplinary work for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Kyle Rowe '17 picked up 11 ground balls against Vermont and 14 against Quinnipiac, winning a total of 33 of 45 faceoffs in the two contests.

-The 2014 Alumni Game was cancelled, however the reception following was a success, with over alumni and their families appearing in the VIP suite of LaValle Stadium, while the Seawolves defeated Vermont 10-7.

At halftime, the alums and their families were given a tour of the renovation of the SB Arena by the Associate Athletic Director for External Services, Rob Emmerich.

Mike Rooney '15 scored six times against Fairfield on nine shots.  Rooney recently became the 15th Seawolf to collect over 100 career points.  


-Terry Foy of Inside Lacrosse listed his Division 1 Freshman Rankings, which includes freshman Kyle Rowe '17 at #7.  Foy wrote that Rowe is the: "most productive freshman face-off specialist to this point in the season."http://www.insidelacrosse.com/news/2014/03/13/di-freshman-rankings-march-13?page=2


Freshman midfielder Kyle Rowe '17 won 20 of 31 faceoffs and picked up 9 ground balls against Fairfield.  Rowe has won 63.4% of his draws and recorded 48 ground balls in only six games.
